From time to time I will go back and showcase some of my older projects. I want to go through some of the lessons I learnt with each one and also look at how I would go through making improvements.
Camera Projection Mapping
I decided to join some of Nick Campbells five second projects over on greyscalegorrila.com The first project was based on the theme of starting with a still photo. When I was younger I took a truly hideous picture at school, what is worst is that my family paid for this photo. The back of the photo had words to the effect of , “photo’s are moments in time captured forever. This had a profound effect on me, I love the idea of capturing something as elusive as time. in a photo.
This is another reason I love camera projection mapping, its like taking a moment in time and manipulating it until it becomes what you want it to be.
I would make so many changes to the above video, I would change the text and have it track the camera movements more accurately for instance.
This video came about because I wanted to see how much I could produce in a few hours, from the birth of an idea to modelling and rigging the simple character, animating and rendering it took me only about three hours. Another benefit of using camera projection mapping is that it gives the illusion of realism with minimal effort.
