Hi there, long time eh?

Good newsMY PORTFOLIO SITE IS UP!! there is still much work to be done but I am glad I have the basic layout done. Have a look on my demo reel and share the site on facebook and twitter. I have tried to create a modular design to make it easier to update. For example, in ancient times if I wanted to update my site I would have to go through a very lengthy technical process. However, with a modular design all I need to do is update my Twitter, my Flickr or my Vimeo and it can be viewed on my website.

Harmony

I found this cool open source browser based drawing package. Very cool I can see me integrating this style into my illustrations.

Recycling is good

Its late now, but later on I will explain why I think it is good recycle old scenes, models, and animations.

Some concept illustrations

Since I have both Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I like to implement them into my workflow as much as possible. One of the current projects I am working on requires some chino like anime characters. I first sketched them in Photoshop. I then took the sorry into Illustrator and shaded the vector image, then I bring it back into Photoshop and add effects like blur, haze and glow. Two incomplete drawings.

Cel Shading

Some experiments with Maya cel-shading. Here is one of my latest images from an anime styled project that I am working on. There are still a few things I need to do in order to make it look less like a 3d model and more like a drawing, one method I sill be talking about in more details is creating an outline.

Some abstract work….

I started this image one afternoon earlier this year. I decided to go for an abstract feel done with Maya and Photoshop.

This next image was done as an experiment, trying to get the painterly feel by using Maya and Photoshop.

Legacy Projects.

From time to time I will go back and showcase some of my older projects. I want to go through some of the lessons I learnt with each one and also look at how I would go through making improvements.

Camera Projection Mapping

I decided to join some of Nick Campbells five second projects over on greyscalegorrila.com The first project was based on the theme of starting with a still photo.  When I was younger I took a truly hideous picture at school, what is worst is that my family paid for this photo. The back of the photo had words to the effect of , “photo’s are moments in time captured forever.  This had a profound effect on me, I love the idea of capturing something as elusive as time. in a photo.

This is another reason I love camera projection mapping, its like taking a moment in time and manipulating it until it becomes what you want it to be.

I would make so many changes to the above video, I would change the text and have it track the camera movements more accurately  for instance.

This video came about because I wanted to see how much I could produce in a few hours, from the birth of an idea to modelling and rigging  the simple character, animating and rendering it took me only about three hours. Another benefit of using camera projection mapping is that it gives the illusion of realism with minimal effort.

Blogging from my iphone

So, like half of the worlds population I have an iPhone. One of the things that speaks to me the most a out this lovely gadget is the ability to update things on the go. I have a library of much of my work stored on my phone for a hypothetical elevator pitch so in theory it should be easy to update wherever I am.

Your browser does not support the video tag

Edit:

Video doesnt seem to load properly from my Phone.

One of my current projects.

I have been working on an animé inspired theme for some times now. I am working with some pretty complex models. This was an updated version of an old model that I had done a few months back, It wasnt very good for animation and lacked photo realisim when rendered, although it was satisfactory in the render shown below.

From time to time I like to do some composite tests and render out all of the passes and composite them in Photo shop to see a rough idea of what the final composite will look like.

As you can see in the attached image I have also added a guide to show the order of each layer and the different layers styles added to each layer. This will help me when it comes down producing the final composite.

I plan on streamlining my web presence

I know, I know, It has been a while since I have posted anything of interest. I am glad to say that I am working on my actual portfolio site so pretty soon I plan to link this blog to to http://www.acreativemind.net.

As of before this blog is simply to show my creative work-flow process. The final products will be displayed on my actual portfolio website.

Over the last year I have really learnt allot about many different creative areas and I am looking forward to applying all of the new techniques that I have learnt. This blog will focus allot more on areas of inspiration as well. I will have to be a bit more disciplined and add many of my random sketches, storyboards, test renders and ideas. I also plan on integrating my youtube, vimeo, behance, facebook and twitter so please bare with me as streamline my web presence.
